1 review for Dahlia Linda’s Baby

  1. Katherine Brunn (verified owner)

Linda’s Baby is prolific– I wouldn’t hesitate to guess that it has produced 3 to 4 times as many blooms as my two other dahlias –and that’s not to say the others aren’t putting off plenty of flowers! All three Fleur Farm dahlias I ordered were received in excellent condition- nice large healthy clumps that have produced very hearty plants.

Planting Tips for Dahlia Linda’s Baby

Choosing a location

Dahlias will grow almost anywhere and are very forgiving, easy to grow garden plants. They will thrive in full sun but can tolerate some partial shade – the more sun, the bigger the flowers. Try to select a location that receives at least 6 hours of sun and is sheltered from the wind. Dahlias like to grow in well-drained and slightly acidic soil. If soil holds standing water for more than 24 hours after a heavy rain, it is normally a sign of poor drainage.

Planting

Dahlia Linda’s Baby can be planted safely after the last frost date. Watch the weather forecast closely to make sure conditions won’t be too cold or too wet. Plant your Dahlias outdoors when the air is consistently at least 50 degrees overnight. This generally means the soil in your garden is about that same temperature and that’s perfect.

Space yourLinda’s Baby tubers so they have enough room for air circulation. Allow 16″-20″ between bulbs to avoid overcrowding. For best performance, plant taller varieties behind the shorter varieties so the shorter ones don’t get shaded out by the taller stalks, causing them to produce fewer and smaller blooms.

Pre-sprouting

In cooler climates, Linda’s Baby Dahlias can be planted indoors, 4 to 6 weeks before the last frost date. Fill 1 or 2 gallon flowerpots or garden containers with slightly moist growing mix. Place the tuber(s) in the flowerpots or containers with the sprouts or eyes facing up, and cover with 2 inch of potting soil. Set the flower pots or containers in a warm place with good light and water sparingly.
